We Are Different, We Are The Same

In collaboration with artist and teacher, Allyson Seal, as well as the advanced photography, drawing and painting students, we enlisted every person at the Branson School to be part of our art show – whether or not they knew it.

Here are some of the things we did. Jessica used every yearbook class photo along with a software program she downloaded from the internet to make a mosaic of the school- transforming the yearbook photos into a beautiful landscape. During lunch in the cafeteria, Alexa, Andy, Brent, Chris, Emma, Abby, Saba and Jessica photographed over 200 pairs of hands, documenting the band-aids, paper cuts, jewelry, nail polish and scribbled notes written on the skin of the hands. Enlisting artists outside of the class, we conducted a school-wide doodle contest and selected 6 winning doodles. We enlarged the doodles to make a binder paper sized doodle into the scale of a large painting. Finally, we plastered FOUND posters around campus, hoping to connect these lonely objects – single shoes, a pair of jeans, pencil cases and last years lacrosse photo - with their owners. With a sense of humor and play, we thought about each project as a portrait of the school, celebrating how we are different and how we are the same.
